A PERSONAL NOTE
I’m Debra Brokaw, and I’ve been married for 22 years to my best friend, Chris. Together, we’re raising five incredible kids, one daughter and four sons, who keep life full, loud, and endlessly meaningful. I enjoy spending time gardening, soaking up the sun at the lake, or catching a quiet moment on the porch. As a family, we’re avid sports fans, constantly on the sidelines for our kids' soccer matches, cross-country meets, or baseball games, rooting for the Chicago Cubs or cheering on the Hawkeyes. Go Hawks!
​My career in education began in 2001 as a classroom teacher. In 2007, I transitioned into school counseling, which enabled me to work with students, educators, families, and communities in both rural and urban schools. My counseling experience encompasses experiences from elementary to high school, but mostly at the middle and high school levels. After years of school-based experience, I stepped into a consultant role at the AEA, where I’ve spent the last four years coaching and supporting school counselor leaders across the state.​
Now, I’m launching my own consulting and coaching business because I believe deeply in the power of connection, data, and building sustainable systems. I’m here to help educators strengthen what’s already working, reimagine what’s not, and build lasting practices that lead to meaningful outcomes for students.​
